Is Siri Getting Smarter? Apple Tests AI-Powered Siri for iPhone 16
Apple is bringing a major upgrade to its virtual assistant, Siri, by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the upcoming iPhone 16 models, set to be released this Friday. This update promises to make Siri more intelligent, capable of automating tasks and enhancing user interaction, marking a new era of smart technology for Apple.
A Smarter Siri on iPhone 16
The AI-powered Siri, branded as “Apple Intelligence”, is part of Apple’s efforts to stand out from competitors like Samsung and Google, who have also introduced AI features to their smartphones. This new technology will be available on all iPhone 16 models, with prices starting from $800. The software was released Thursday for early testing, but it will officially roll out to all iPhones next month.
With the new update, Siri is expected to become more conversational, capable of performing a variety of tasks like writing, proofreading, and summarizing emails and documents. It will also introduce photo-editing tools to make it easier for users to manage their images. A unique visual feature includes a glowing light rotating around the screen as Siri processes requests.
Siri’s AI Expansion
Initially, the AI features will be available only in U.S. English, with plans to expand into other English-speaking regions, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK by December. More languages will follow in 2024.
One exciting aspect of the update is the future integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, enhancing Siri’s functionality even further. However, some advanced features, such as creating custom emojis and generating images, won’t be included in this first release.
Devices Getting the Update
All iPhone 16 models will support this AI technology, as well as last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which have the required advanced processors. For these models, the update will also enable the ability to record spatial video, which can be viewed using Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset. However, older iPhone models won’t be able to use these AI features.
Apple’s Market Moves
Apple’s new AI-driven approach is already creating buzz. Since previewing its AI strategy in June, Apple’s stock has risen by over 15%, adding $500 billion to its market value. With the launch of the iPhone 16 and the AI-powered Siri, analysts believe Apple’s market valuation could soon surpass $4 trillion.
